In the world of entertainment, passion serves as the motivator, while ambition acts as the catalyst. For Nicole Plantin, her love for music not only propelled her into the industry but also fueled her determination to make a lasting impact.
Nicole's career is a testament to her unwavering passion, tenacity, and innate understanding of the artist's journey. Her exceptional artist relations skills have earned her the trust and collaboration of renowned visionaries in the industry. Working with Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, collectively known as The Neptunes, during the launch of their label Star Trak Entertainment and the introduction of their fashion brand Billionaire Boys Club/Ice Cream, laid a solid foundation for her career. In this role, she found herself at the intersection of music, culture, and fashion, working with a roster of groundbreaking artists such as Clipse, Kelis, N*E*R*D, Robin Thicke, Snoop, and more.
Following her time with The Neptunes, Nicole joined the team of super producer Rich Harrison (known for his work on hits like Beyonce's "Crazy in Love," Destiny's Child's "Soldier," Amerie's "One Thing," and Jennifer Lopez "Get Right") in a marketing capacity at his newly launched joint venture, Richcraft/Atlantic Records. Here, she honed her skills in artist development and played a pivotal role in assembling the successful girl group Richgirl, who later toured with Beyoncé as their opening act.
Fueled by her passion for the art of record-making and artist development, Nicole ventured to Los Angeles when she was recruited for a Writer-Publisher role at BMI. During her time there, she immersed herself in LA's thriving artist scene and created the showcase "Next Fresh Thing" to spotlight emerging talents such as Miguel, Dom Kennedy, Hit-Boy (Surf Club), Big Sean, and Priscilla Renea (now known as Muni Long). Additionally, she signed notable artists and producers including Nipsey Hussle, Schoolboy Q, Jhene Aiko, Earl Sweatshirt, Mac Miller, Wiz Khalifa , The Stereotypes (Justin Bieber, Bruno) and T-Minus (Drake, Nicki Minaj).
Nicole's well-rounded knowledge and experience from her previous roles made her a sought-after professional for those seeking to grow their companies and brands. After her tenure at BMI, she embarked on a new opportunity to expand and rebrand the independent label Rostrum Records (home to Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller) alongside its president and founder, Benjy Grinberg. During this time, she oversaw the curation and development of a diverse roster that represented emerging sounds both in the US and internationally. Her time at Rostrum Records concluded at the beginning of the global pandemic.
Fortunately, another remarkable opportunity came knocking. In early 2021, Nicole was offered the position of General Manager at Khalabo Music, a label venture launched by award-winning producer, director, and screenwriter Kenya Barris (known for his work on shows like "black-ish," "grown-ish," "#Blackaf," and "You People"), in partnership with Interscope. Here, she collaborated closely with Barris and his TV/film team, bridging the worlds of music and storytelling.
Nicole's multicultural background, artistic roots, and activist spirit will always drive her to merge music, passion, and purpose. Whether alongside other visionaries or building her own platform, she remains committed to this mission. In addition to her work in the industry, Nicole is the owner of Soeur Agency, LLC, and the founder and host of the podcast Soeur Lab, which celebrates creative and visionary womxn who are setting trends and pushing boundaries from behind the scenes.
